What are the medical benefits of cannabis: Epilepsy
Epidiolex, a CBD treatment, was approved by the FDA in June as a means to treat two severe forms of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid found in cannabis and hemp. CBD does not have any psychoactive effects like other cannabinoids. Many studies have shown that regulated CBD oil can be effective in treating various conditions.
On average, children with Dravet syndrome who were given CBD had fewer epileptic episodes. As Dravet syndrome is a type of long seizure that can be deadly; 80% of those diagnosed do not survive to age 20.
According to a recent study published in the Journal of Epilepsy Research, 120 kids and teenagers who received CBD treatment had approximately six seizures per month as opposed to 12. The study was double-blind, randomized, and crossover, which means that doctors compared a CBD oral solution to a placebo for 14 weeks. According
