Cannabis trim isn’t just good for cooking; it can be used to make drinks too! Milk, dairy or plant-based, can be infused with cannabis for an added boost to that Sunday’s breakfast! And the process is extremely easy to boot. Heat the milk to a simmer, then add your trimming. Stir it for a good 30-45 minutes, adding more milk if needed. Your canna-milk will be a yellowish green when ready. Strain it, let it cool, and store in the fridge in a sealed container. Just make sure you use it before the expiry date printed on the original milk carton. Homemade canna-milk is a great addition to your tea, coffee or even breakfast cereal.
Cannabis Milk: Ingredients
- 20-30g of dry resinous leaves or 2-5g of cured flowers per liter of water
- 1L of bottled water
- 1L whole milk
Note: When making cannabis milk it’s important to know that you can use THC-rich cannabis or CBD-rich cannabis. Also, keep in mind that if you use dried leaves without much resin the effect will be less potent.

Cannabis Milk: Preparing the Cannabis
The first step that you’ll need to take before starting to make the milk is cleaning and preparing your weed in order to get rid of as much chlorophyll as possible. When you get rid of the chlorophyll, it won’t taste as sour, making it much easier to drink. You’ll also be getting rid of insects, insect eggs, dirt, dust and any residues that may be on the flowers. This step is entirely optional, although we recommend it if you’re worried about the flavor of your milk.
Cannabis Milk: Cannabinoid extraction
Some people think that when you clean cannabis with water you’re degrading or getting rid of cannabinoids, but this simply isn’t true. Cannabinoids are water-repellent, which means that they can’t be absorbed or washed away by water. They are, however, fat-soluble, which means that they get absorbed into fatty materials – this is why we’re using whole milk in this recipe, so that all of the cannabinoids mix with the milk itself.
Once you know how cannabinoids act when they come into contact with water versus milk and other fatty materials (butter etc.) it’s time to start making your very own recipes!
How to clean your cannabis
You’ll need a pot, a sieve, a liter of bottled water and your cannabis for this particular step.
- Step 1: Pour the water and cannabis into the pot.
- Step 2: Put the pot on the stove and wait for it to boil.
- Step 3: Once it has boiled, turn the heat down and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Step 4: After 10 minutes, remove the pot and pour the water into your sieve. Clean it with some cold water – try to touch it as little as possible.
- Step 5: Once you’ve gotten rid of the water, it’s time to start preparing your cannabis milk.
How to make cannabis milk
You already know that you’ll need to wash your cannabis before making the milk. Grab your pot, a wooden kitchen spoon and a glass jar or bottle for storing the milk.
Once you have everything laid out, it’s time to get working.
- Step 1: Pour the full liter of milk and all of your cannabis into the pot.
- Step 2: Put it on medium heat until it starts boiling.
- Step 3: Once it starts to boil, lower the heat.
- Step 4: Mix every now and then to keep it from boiling.
- Step 5: cook the milk for about 40 minutes.
- Step 6: remove the pot from the stove and pour the mixture through the sieve into your glass bottle.
- Step 7: let it cool down at room temperature and then put it in the fridge.
Cannabis Milk | Effects

How to take cannabis milk
When it comes to drinking THC-rich cannabis milk, we highly recommend drinking a small amount and waiting to see how you feel. With a small amount, we mean about a quarter glass of milk – wait for about an hour. If after an hour you don’t feel any sort of effect, drink another quarter and wait again.
We recommend this method for both beginners and experienced smokers or cannabis consumers.

How to store cannabis milk
Storing cannabis milk isn’t that difficult; simply store it like regular milk. Keep in mind the sell-by-date on the original carton of milk that you used. Keep it in the fridge and keep track of the days since you’ve made it – the only difference with cannabis milk is that the cannabinoids in the milk itself may end up degrading – that’s why we recommend using an opaque glass bottle or, if you only have see-through bottles, use something to cover it so that no light gets in, which is what ends up degrading the cannabinoids. Tin foil is perfect for this.
Alternative uses for cannabis milk
Cannabis milk is still milk, so you can include it in any other recipe that requires milk in it, making your very own cannabis-rich dish. Just keep in mind that you shouldn’t be cooking anything that requires high heat in order to conserve its full properties.
- Cannabis tortilla: simply add some cannabis milk when whisking your eggs
- Ice-cream: use some cannabis milk when mixing up your ice-cream
When making cannabis milk you can obtain an extra added benefit if you actually don’t wash the flowers. This allows you to keep the chlorophyll in the recipe, which has a whole list of added benefits and properties; washing your weed is an optional process. If you don’t wash it your milk may have a sort of sour taste.

Cannabis milk recipe
- 300ml full milk
- 5g dry cannabis buds
- Medium-sized saucepan
- 1 glass container for the milk
- 1 sieve
Before starting to cook, we recommend cleaning the cannabis that you plan on using. Place it in a pan with water and heat it up without letting it boil, or without letting it go over 120ºC if you have an efficient way to control the heat.
This is done to get rid of some of the green, chlorophyll flavor from your weed, although it is optional as chlorophyll also contains beneficial properties.
Cannabis milk recipe steps:
- Clean your cannabis.
- Prepare a saucepan and pour in your milk.
- Place your weed in the saucepan.
- Set it to medium heat for 40 minutes and try to keep it from going over 150°C.
- Strain the milk and remove the leftover weed.
- Let it cool down and place the milk in the fridge.
- Your cannabis milk is ready for making for very own cannabis ice cream!
- This milk can be used medicinally also, being highly effective for eating disorders and intense muscle pain, among others.
- A saucepan

- 250ml of whole milk
- 3 – 5g of cannabis (depending on strength)
- Use your grinder or blender to grind up your cannabis as finely as possible – the finer it is, the larger its surface area will be. The larger the surface area, the more efficiently cannabinoids can be extracted.
- Add your milk into the saucepan and heat it until it is simmering gently.
- Lower the heat and then add in your cannabis, stirring it occasionally.
- Allow the mix to simmer for an hour, continue to stir it occasionally to keep it slightly agitated.
- After an hour allow your mixture to cool and then filter out the cannabis with a fine strainer.
- Pour the milk into a container and keep it refrigerated. It will expire the same time as its ‘use by’ date.
Vegan Cannabis Almond Milk

You can of course use store bought almond milk, but it‘s way tastier to make up your own fresh batch. It‘s easy to make fresh almond milk you will need the following:
- 45g of almonds
- 250ml of water
- Soak the almonds in water overnight
- Blend the almonds and water together in a food processor/blender until it‘s smooth and looks like milk.
- Strain the almond residue out of the milk. It‘s easiest to use a dedicated nut milk bag for this, but any fine sieve will do.
Proceed to create cannabis milk using the above recipe, substituting the cow milk for the almond milk.
